New
50 Peaks opened up for Climbing on the occasion of the Mt. Everest Golden
Jubilee Celebration.

Majesty's Government of Nepal has opened up new 50 mountain peaks for climbing
on the auspicious occasion of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the first
ascent of the world's tallest Mountain Sagarmatha (Everest). The decision
has been taken by the Council of Ministers on 29 May 2003 which comes into
effect immediately. With newly opened 50 peaks, the total number of mountain peaks that are opened for climbing in Nepal has reached 326. It is also noted that His Majesty's Government had already opened up 125 new peaks within the past two years. Among these 50 peaks, the highest peak is Kabra in Kanchanjunga Range with an altitude of 7,318 meter. Out of the total 50 peaks, 23 peaks are of below 6,500 meter for which no liaison officer is required. The total number of peaks which do not require liaison officer for expedition has now reached at 121 peaks. (Including NMA peaks) The names, heights, himalayan range, latitude, longitude and other details of the peaks are attached herewith. With an objective of attracting more mountaineers, trekkers and tourists to the country, His Majesty's Government of Nepal has adopted a very liberal policy in opening up new mountain peaks for last couple of years. Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation expresses its hope that this will not only further help develop mountain tourism inside Nepal and but will also strengthen the image of the country as a prime mountain and adventure tourism destination in the world. |
